The Sons of Two Alums Put Holy Cross on the Map Across the Country

It wouldn't be a Holy Cross Newsletter without mentioning Holy Cross Junior, Jacob Thomson, who continues to excel in the running world across Kentucky and the U.S.  Jacob, the son of Tammy White Thomson HC'86, represented Holy Cross on April 7th at the Arcadia Invitational in California where only the most elite high school runners in the country were invited.  Jacob finished the 3200 meter race in 15th place with a time of 8:58.  This makes Jacob only the 2nd high schooler in Kentucky history to hit the under 9 minute mark!  Since then, Jacob finished 1st in the Miracle Mile held at St. Xavier with a time of 4:13 and also had 1st place finishes at the Regional track meet in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters which qualifies him for all three events at the State Meet on May 17th.  CLICK HERE to read more about the accomplishments of this outstanding young man!

Another Holy Cross student has also made himself known around the country for his speed....behind the wheel!  Holy Cross Freshman, Ben Rhodes, the son of Anglea Merici 1984 Alum, Lori Lamkin Rhodes,
has been racing for nearly 8 years...and he doesn't even have his driver's permit!  Fifteen year old, Ben, raced for the Young Lions Division Legend Cars throughout 2011 where he earned 43 victories.....more than any of the 1,200 Legends Car drivers in the country.  In 2012, Ben has been racing for Marcos Ambrose Motorsport in the #9 Stanley Ford Fusion car.  On April 27th, Ben finished in  6th Place in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Shootout to benefit cystic fibrosis. He raced against the likes of Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, and Michael Waltrip. (CLICK HERE to read more about Ben's Accomplishments).  Both Jacob and Ben are great racers, but even more amazing young men!  They continually make us proud to call them Holy Cross Cougars...both on and off the racing track!
